Join the PRSA Chesapeake Chapter group for a lively conversation around starting a business as a communications/marketing professional. Maryland Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Business Consultant Dr. Candace Pruett will provide crucial advice for turning your entrepreneurial dream into a viable business venture. Participants will also hear firsthand experience from local Annapolis business owner Judy Buddensick of Frances Marketing Group, a full service media and marketing agency.

Dr. Candace Pruett
Dr. Candace Pruett has been working with entrepreneurs as they launch and grow their business ventures over the past decade. At the Maryland Small Business Development Center, Candace assists companies dive into product testing, customer discovery, launching their marketing plans, obtaining financing, and developing growth strategies. Whether your early-stage company is inventing technology that has never existed or expanding the scope of an application, she can assist you grow your entrepreneurial dream into a viable business venture. She has experience with assisting clients with projected cash flows, research, and business plans.

Candace has been in two Business Plan competitions herself. She also has assisted clients for other entrepreneurial competitions including pitching sessions for clients who have entered in the television show Shark Tank. She also is involved with the Entrepreneurial Program at Anne Arundel Community College, where she also is an adjunct professor and judge for their annual business plan pitch competitions.

Candace has been awarded the SBDC State Star Award in 2017 recognized at the National ASBDC conference. She is also certified as a GrowthWheel Certified Business Advisor and FranFit Advisor. Candace is an active participant in the Maryland Economic Development Association and a member of their Young Leaders Group. She also volunteers on the Career Advisory Board for Purdue School of Business at her alma mater, Salisbury University. Candace earned her Doctor of Business Administration at the University of Maryland Global Campus (formerly known as University of Maryland University College). Candace received her Master of Business Administration and B.S. in Management from Salisbury University. Candace’s research interest is in generational studies revolving around how the culture of an organization impacts knowledge transfer.

Judy Buddensick
Judy is extremely passionate about marketing, advertising, and helping small businesses grow.

Frances Marketing Group, is a full service media and marketing agency with an emphasis on her clients’ digital brick and mortar: the website, as it’s the foundation for all your other marketing.

Before moving to Annapolis two decades ago, she had an impressive resume in New York City. She was the Media Director for a New York ad agency. When a rare opportunity opened at legendary New York station, Z100, made the leap to radio.  She was the first sales manager of 95.9 The Rat in New Jersey before moving here to run WRNR radio for 12 years. She dove head first into digital media as that became the consumer’s first choice. After a few years with some of the national digital media firms, she launched RNR Digital Solutions in 2014, and in February 2017, she opened the Frances Marketing Group. That’s where she connected with Candace Pruett, who was an incredible mentor to her.

Volunteerism and Community Service are passions for her. She has sponsored over 100 Midshipmen from the Naval Academy in the 20 years she has lived in Annapolis. Judy is on the Board of Directors of the Downtown Annapolis Partnership, the Annapolis Police Foundation, the Annapolis Police Scholarship Fundraiser, and ASAP (Annapolis Substance Abuse & Prevention) Coalition, as well as the social media and marketing director for the United States Naval Academy Chaplains.
