Talk by Air Force Social media head, Clayton Filipowicz on leading-edge social media techniques.

Defense Information School (DISA) -  tour facility
Pete Robertson, PIO will give us a tour of the facility and then have a presentation by Capt. Katie Cousins, USAF Instructor, on how to reverse engineer a communications plan with improvements in performance and cost efficiency and other leading-edge multimedia case studies based on the new curriculum.

Lunch
During lunch hear from editor Larry Whitely Sr. of Base weekly paper - Sound Off- 12,000 circulation on how civilian PR people can get articles and notices in the paper. Also, hear from Officer who will explain how small contractors in PR /marketing can get Ft Meade contracts.

PRSA Chesapeake will take a small group (25 max.) on a tour of Ft. Meade designed solely for PR and marketing practitioners on Thursday, May 30 from 9:45 am to 12:45 pm. Ft. Meade is the largest employer in Maryland with 55,000 primarily civilian staffers and is home to most Department of Defense public affairs organizations. The visit will include a base tour and then focus on Defense Media Activity and the Defense Information School concluding with lunch presentations on how to get into the base paper, Sound Off and how small businesses’ can become eligible for base PR and Marketing contracts.

Clayton Filipowicz, Chief of Social Media for the Air Force, will show us how he can tell what parts of a major speech get the most attention from listeners and how he gets the address written in “social media language” from the start. He uses examples focused on gay military issues.

Faculty member, Capt. Katie Cousins, USAF, will show the group how building a communications plan backward is the most effective way. Reverse engineering a communications plan with improvements in performance and cost efficiency is a new part of her curriculum.

The tour will include the state of the art TV studios that broadcasts Meade TV news every 8 minutes

The program costs $25 for PRSA and Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce members. Others pay $30. It includes lunch at the Freedom Inn cafeteria on base. All participants must provide a photo ID. Participants must arrive no later than 9:45 am at Ft. Meade ( 902 Reece Rd, Ft. Mead). Click here to register.

When you turn on to Reece Road, you will need to turn right into the parking lot of the Visitor Control Center. The bus will be waiting in the large lot behind the Visitors Center (see map below). The entrance to the parking lot is BEFORE you get to the main guard gate.
