You know how quickly it can happen. And in today’s world, it may not be a question of if – but when – a viral crisis will affect you and your business or organization. What are the new rules for preparing for a crisis in today’s fast-moving, viral social media world? Are you prepared?

This interactive, hands-on crisis workshop is designed to help you become aware of potential crises, create effective communication crisis strategy, measure your response effectiveness, and prepare yourself and your company or organization to maximize your overall communication goals.

The speakers, Nicholas Peters will discuss current viral crisis situations and the communication reaction and responses – both good and not-so-good – and then give you the opportunity to test your viral crisis communications skills with role-playing and analysis. In addition, Peters will provide ideas and tips you can use immediately to prepare your organization for “Containing Crises in Today’s Viral World.”

Nicholas (Nick) F. Peters conducted this presentation for other PRSA units, for the FBI, for graduate students in PR at Georgetown, etc. and is a current member of the NCC PRSA and PRSA National. Peters has been both a multiple national award-winning major market and network print and broadcast journalist, and a senior executive in public relations and corporate and crisis communications. Nick has experienced crises from both sides of the media: As a journalist, he covered the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Harrisburg, PA in 1979. He was on the news desk at CBS News in New York coordinating coverage when the KAL jetliner was shot down, during the Union Carbide Bhopal disaster, and when the space shuttle Challenger exploded. Currently he is Chief Counsel for a reputation management and public relations campaign for the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems, defending public sector pensions from politically-motivated attacks at the state level nationwide. He also manages the media and public relations team promoting key members of a law and lobbying firm. He currently oversees crisis media training programs for field investigators of the National Transportation Safety Board, and the U.S. Chemical Safety & Hazard Investigation Board, and media training and testimony prep programs for the U.S.  Department of State.
